Sugar Rush RTP and Volatility

Reviewed and updated · written by Elias Philip Robidoux

Quick answer

The RTP of Sugar Rush is 96.50% in the standard build, for both normal spins and the bonus buy. Sugar Rush 1000 shows 96.53% and Super Scatter 96.58% in their demo builds. Casinos can choose lower settings, so the only number that counts is the one in the info panel of the game where you play.

RTP for every version and mode

The first two columns come from the configuration of the official demo builds. The “provider web page” column is what pragmaticplay.com displays. The last column lists lower settings mentioned by slot databases; we have not seen those builds ourselves.

One discrepancy to know about. Pragmatic Play's web page for Sugar Rush 1000 shows 96.00%, while the demo build of the same game reports 96.53%. We show both and do not pick one. At a casino, trust the in-game panel.

How to check the RTP at your casino

  1. Open Sugar Rush while logged in to the casino (real-money mode).
  2. Tap the “i” or menu button on the game screen.
  3. Scroll to the end of the rules. The line reads “The theoretical RTP of this game is …%”.
  4. If the figure is below 96.50%, the operator runs a lower build. You can look for the game elsewhere.

What RTP does and does not tell you

RTP is the share of all stakes the game returns over a very large number of spins — millions. A 96.50% RTP means the house keeps 3.50% in the long run, or about $7 per $200 wagered on average. It does not predict a session. In a high-volatility slot like this, a few hundred spins can end far above or far below that average.

The difference between builds is real money over time: at 94.50% the expected cost per $200 wagered rises from $7 to $11, which is 57% more.

Volatility and the win cap

All four games are rated high volatility. The configuration also states how rare the cap is: 1 in 2,340,000 spins for the 5,000x of the original, 1 in 12,800,000 for the 25,000x of Sugar Rush 1000, and 1 in 10,000,000 for the 50,000x of Super Scatter. A larger cap does not mean a better return; it means the payout is spread more unevenly.

Feature descriptions are on the review page, and the differences between games are on the versions page.

What the RTP difference costs in dollars

Cost of 100 spins and the long-run expected loss at three RTP builds
Bet per spinWagered in 100 spinsAt 96.50%At 95.50%At 94.50%
$0.40$40$1.40$1.80$2.20
$1$100$3.50$4.50$5.50
$2$200$7$9$11
$4$400$14$18$22
$10$1,000$35$45$55

At a $2 bet, 1,000 spins put $2,000 through the game. The expected cost is $70 at 96.50%, $90 at 95.50% and $110 at 94.50%. The lower builds look close on paper and are 29% and 57% more expensive in practice.

Theory against a real session

We played 500 demo spins of three versions on 13 Oct 2026. Every one of those builds is set to roughly 96.5%. The sessions returned 92.1% (Sugar Rush), 200.1% (Sugar Rush 1000) and 64.9% (Super Scatter).

Nothing was wrong with any of them. Five hundred spins are far too few for a high-volatility game to settle near its average; one bonus round moved the Sugar Rush 1000 result by more than 100 percentage points. This is the practical meaning of volatility, and the reason an RTP figure cannot tell you how tonight will go. The details of the test are in the review.

Common misunderstandings

  • “96.5% means I get $193 back from $200.” Only as an average over a huge number of spins by all players. Your own session can return $0 or $2,000.
  • “After a long losing run the game has to pay.” It does not. Each spin is independent and the game keeps no account of what it “owes”.
  • “RTP changes during the day.” No. The build is fixed by the operator's configuration, not by time, stake or account.
  • “A higher bet gives a better RTP.” Not in these games. The percentage is the same at every stake.
  • “The demo is looser than the real game.” The demo runs a certified build with the same rules. What can differ is which build the casino chose.

How the figures are certified

Before a game is offered in a regulated market, an independent test laboratory checks its random number generator and its mathematical model against the declared RTP. Gambling regulators require this certification, and operators must show the game's theoretical RTP to players — which is why the line exists in the info panel.

Questions players ask

What is the RTP of Sugar Rush?

96.50% in the standard build. Lower operator builds of 95.50% and 94.50% are reported by slot databases.

Does the bonus buy change the RTP?

In the original the purchase has the same 96.50%. In Sugar Rush 1000 the demo build shows 96.52% for the regular buy and 96.44% for the super buy.

Which Sugar Rush has the highest RTP?

By the demo builds, Sugar Rush Super Scatter at 96.58%, followed by Sugar Rush 1000 at 96.53% and the original at 96.50%. The gaps are too small to matter next to the build your casino uses.

Can a casino change the RTP?

An operator chooses one of the builds certified for its market. It cannot alter results for an individual player or session.

Why was my session nowhere near 96.5%?

Because RTP is a long-run average. In our own 500-spin demo sessions the return ranged from 64.9% to 200.1% on builds set to about 96.5%.

Is 96.50% a good RTP?

It is slightly above the typical range for online slots, which mostly sit between 94% and 96.5%. It still means the house has a 3.5% edge.
