How to Play Sugar Rush

Reviewed and updated · written by Elias Philip Robidoux

Quick answer

Set your total bet (from €0.20), press spin, and the game pays for any group of five or more matching symbols that touch horizontally or vertically. Winning symbols vanish, new ones drop in, and cells that pay more than once get a multiplier that doubles each time. Three or more scatters start free spins.

Try the demo first

Step by step

  1. Open the game in a licensed casino lobby or in the demo.
  2. Set the bet. Use the plus and minus buttons next to the spin button. The figure shown is the total cost of one spin in dollars.
  3. Spin. Press the round button or the space bar on desktop.
  4. Watch the tumbles. Clusters are paid, removed and replaced automatically until no new cluster appears.
  5. Read the result. The win for the whole sequence is shown at the bottom and added to your balance.

The interface

  • “i” button — opens the rules, the paytable and the RTP line. Read it once at every new casino.
  • Autoplay — runs a set number of spins. Use the loss limit if it is offered; some regulators restrict or ban autoplay.
  • Buy feature — starts free spins for 100x the bet where the operator allows it.
  • Balance, bet, win — shown along the bottom in your account currency.

Symbols and payouts

Seven symbols pay. The bigger the cluster, the more it returns; the scale jumps sharply from 12 symbols upward. The scatter pays nothing by itself — it only opens free spins.

Reading multiplier spots

A cell that has taken part in a win is highlighted. The next win through that cell puts “x2” on it, then x4, x8 and so on up to x128. When a cluster covers several marked cells, the game adds their values and multiplies the cluster's payout by the total. In the base game the board is cleared after each paid spin; in free spins it is not.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Counting diagonals. Symbols touching only at a corner are not a cluster.
  • Raising the bet after losses. The game has no memory. A bigger bet only makes the same odds more expensive.
  • Treating small wins as profit. A 0.3x “win” is a loss of 70% of that spin's stake.
  • Buying the bonus on a small balance. One purchase costs 100 bets and frequently returns less.
  • Skipping the info panel. The RTP build differs between casinos; see Sugar Rush RTP.

Multiplier spots, step by step

How a multiplier spot grows: wins on the same cell
Win number on the cellCell shows
1Marked, no multiplier yet
2x2
3x4
4x8
5x16
6x32
7x64
8x128
9x256
10x512
11x1,024

In the base game you will mostly see marked cells and the occasional x2 or x4, because the board is wiped after every paid spin. In free spins the same ladder keeps climbing for the whole round.

Example with real numbers

Bet €0.50. Nine of the third-best symbol connect: the paytable gives 1.5x, which is €0.75. One cell under the cluster shows x8 and another x2. The multipliers are added (10) and applied: 1.5x × 10 = 15x, so the cluster pays €7.50. A second cluster formed in the same tumble on unmarked cells is paid at its plain paytable value.

What a spin costs and returns

Every paid spin costs the full bet shown on screen; tumbles after a win are free. The win figure at the bottom is the total for the whole chain of tumbles. If it is lower than your bet, the spin lost money even though it “won”.

Glossary

  • Cluster — five or more identical symbols connected side to side or top to bottom.
  • Tumble (cascade) — removal of winning symbols and the drop of new ones into the gaps.
  • Marked cell — a position that has taken part in a win during the current spin or bonus round.
  • Multiplier spot — a marked cell that has paid again and now shows x2 or more.
  • Scatter — the symbol that starts free spins when three or more land anywhere.
  • Retrigger — three or more scatters during free spins, which add more spins.
  • Bonus buy — paying a fixed multiple of the bet to start free spins immediately.
  • RTP — return to player, the long-run share of stakes paid back.
  • Volatility — how unevenly that return is spread across spins.
  • Win cap — the largest total a single round can pay; 5,000x in the original.

Before your first real-money spin

  • Decide how much the session may cost and set that as a deposit or loss limit in the casino account.
  • Pick a bet that gives you at least 200 spins from that budget.
  • Check the RTP line in the info panel.
  • Decide in advance when you will stop — at a time, or at a balance — and keep to it whether you are up or down.

Questions players ask

How many symbols do I need to win?

At least five identical symbols connected horizontally or vertically. Larger clusters pay more, up to 150x the bet for 15 or more of the top symbol.

Is there a wild symbol in Sugar Rush?

No. The game has seven paying symbols and a scatter. Multiplier spots take the role that wilds play in other slots.

Is there a strategy for Sugar Rush?

No strategy changes the odds. Outcomes are random. What you control is the stake, the session length and when you stop.

Can I play Sugar Rush on my phone?

Yes. It is an HTML5 game that runs in mobile browsers and inside casino apps. See the Sugar Rush app page.

Do tumbles cost extra?

No. You pay once per spin. All tumbles that follow a win are part of the same paid spin.

Why did my multiplier disappear?

In the base game all marked cells and multipliers are cleared when the tumbles of a spin end. They persist only during free spins.
